Œdipe

by Sophocle

directed by Philippe Adrien

Director Philippe Adrien and Bruno Netter’s theatre company from Angers meet for the 4th time : Their beautifully designed play explores the uniqueness of this myth where malediction is behind every step of this cursed family. Oedipus gouges his eyes out Œdipus as punishment. The play starts with the end of Œdipus’ journey. Then in a flashback which combines Oedipus in Kolonos and Oedipus the King, we are told his story, how he fulfilled the prophecy that said he would kill his father and marry his mother Jocasta, and bring disaster on his city and family. This play is brought to perfection by blind actor Bruno Netter, along with several disabled actors from his Compagnie du troisième œil (third eye company).
